I guess I’m the first to comment! So, my answer is YES! Any business wisdom is welcomed.
I have a question. Did you ever find yourself at the place where you were working a fulltime job and trying to work your business? I had to start working only 3 months after starting my business and it has been so tough. I’m a wife, a mother, AND I still homeschool a child. Needless to say, my business is stagnant. Summer break is coming but it couldn’t come soon enough!
Hi Katie! You are an incredible person! It is tough juggling being a wife, mom, teacher, employee, and business owner.
I can’t relate to all of those challenges. However, there is one similarity, I worked full-time while starting my business. I did that for about 7 months until I started bringing in enough revenue to cover my living expenses. It was tough. I would get up early in the morning to work on the business, put in a full shift at the office, and then work when I got home. So, in some small way, I can empathize.
I would encourage you to keep going. If there is any way that I can help you along in your journey feel free to reach out to me. I’m rooting for you!
Yes I would love to see more business videos from you! You are so easy to listen to! I’m wondering about Etsy vs Instagram vs Craft shows….what are the pros and cons of each? Also, how to keep going when the person closest to you keeps telling you you’re wasting your time?
Those are excellent questions Barb! Thanks for the encouragement to keep making those types of videos. I know having the support of the people closest to me has been helpful in sustaining in the face of adversity. I will add these questions to the list of information to include in my next video. I will tell you this. I am over here rooting for you. Starting a small business is a challenging task. It is not meant for the faint of heart. Because you are out there pushing yourself towards your goal, I know that you have the tenacity to persevere. I hope these words of encouragement will be slightly helpful for you. Keep pushing! I’ve got your back!
Thank you for taking the time to honestly share your experience in a positive and professional manner. I am re-finding my passion for textile arts and am throwing ideas around in my head into how to make it into a small business so I was thrilled to stumble across your fantastic site. Plus I downloaded a cute pattern for a new crochet hat. More of this please and especially on how to reach the people you ‘think’ will be interested in your new business’ products and services. All the best, Kelly
Yes – I need tips…inspiration…cheerleading! Thanks so much for your video, and I hope to see more!
Thanks for putting this video up it has really inspired me to actually start a small home business which I have been dreaming about for approx 2 years when I started looking at other options to make money due to health issues. I also have a passion for sewing and crochet so I would like to share this with other people. What would you suggest using to put my stuff up? Facebook, Instagram, or something else? and do you have any suggestions as to how I could start a business as I don’t work yet, the only income I get is not steady and I only get $30 a week other than my birthdays. If you have any other suggestions that could help me start a business so that I can share my love for homemade things please let me know.
Kezia, I’m excited for you! It’s hard to say what will work best so I usually suggest trying as many things as possible. Social media can be a great way to gain exposure. See what works and do more of that. Refine what doesn’t. It’s usually best to have steady income rolling in while you get a business up and running since it can take awhile to be profitable, sometimes a year or two. Best of luck!
