Our pattern this week is a dreamy knit wrap with some lovely, lacy panels but without the work of true lace!
Rhoswen is a knit rectangular shawl designed by Jane Vanselous and is made with our dreamy Expression Fiber Arts Alpaca Silk Lace Weight Yarn in 2 colors.

The 2 colors are used in a really unique way to make this shawl. For one section, you hold one yarn color single. For the next section, you switch needle sizes and hold 2 strands together. It’s magical!
This shawl drapes and flows, flits and floats! You can adjust the size to make it a scarf or wider wrap if you prefer. And the length is totally up to you!

My inspiration in designing this shawl, was to create something light and airy, but not too difficult. I chose two lace weight yarns in colors that I thought would work well together and keep the light appearance that I was striving for. The design would work just as well, although with a completely different effect, in 2 dark colored yarns.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but when you purl 2 together aren’t you decreasing the number of stitches? How is that compensated for later. I’m sure I’m missing something.
That is a great question! It is compensated by doing the yarn overs which increase your stitch count. 💕
Im having the same problem. I just did the first 20 rows and I have completely decreased stitches. Something isnt right 🙁

I must have missed this video! This is a wonderful pattern and now I even understand how best to bring the yarn being carried up the side of the work! I had a lace weight hank of yarn that haunted me. It was an impulse purchase from years back that I bought while traveling. I thought might have to wait until someone inherited it from me to ever get use, but I’ve paired this with a dark green lace weight and HALLELUJAH! This pattern works so well when other lace patterns I tried fell flat! The use of two needle sizes is brilliant!
I am using this pattern with the modification that the lighter color is always the one used in the lace section. It’s working up so much fancier than the simple-to-read-as-you-work pattern would have suggested to me. It will now be the heirloom that gets inherited! Thank you so much!
Bravo to you also for the excellent and entertaining video tutorials (don’t EVER stop putting in the bloopers!) and the knack you have for partnering good designers too. The way this knits up is evidence of the designer’s skill. So smooth!

I may have found the perfect pattern for my stash of about 640 yards of pure mohair. Which is a dark blue in color.
What do you think, mix it with ???
I would prefer to use non superwash yarns.

I am so excited to try this pattern. One question – would my primary color be color A on the pattern? I want the primary to be the dominant color (grey in my case) so I suppose that is the A and 2) I will continue to use this primary color using the #6 needle when I start on the row5 single yarn?

Yes, Color A is your primary color, but on Rows 5 through 10, you’ll only work with Color B using the smaller needles. You’ll drop color A until instructed to pick it up again and hold it with Color B.
this is a lovely pattern, and I think will be using January Skies and Spiral Staircase colorways to make it (second color hasn’t arrived so I’m not sure if it’s the one yet), but I’m glad I decided to work it in a single strand of DK with my practice yarn and size 8s, because my biggest issue is with the yarn overs… I forget them, or put them in the wrong place.. after the third time frogging, I put in a lifeline at row 4, because I know I’ll probably make another mistake before I master this stitch! lol I suspect the yarn overs are the trick for everyone else too! Persevere! I’m starting to get the hang of it 😉 blessings all.
