Well, I’ve created my first knitting tutorial! How to knit the Magic Loop Method!
I use it for all my projects in the round (I virtually never use DPN’s/double-pointed needles) as I find them too fussy to work with.
Once you know the Magic Loop Method, you will truly feel it is indeed MAGIC! You just need:
•1 long circular needle of at least 32 inches
•Yarn
•A smidgen of time to get the technique down
And you can then knit anything in the round, including tiny things, like fingers for gloves!
This is my very first tutorial, so I hope you enjoy it!
I learned a great deal from doing it and hope to begin creating more and more tutorials for you, so let me know if you have any suggestions!
I plan on creating knitting, crocheting, dyeing and spinning tutorials. Maybe even felting!
If you are interested in creating your own tutorials, I just did it all on my iPhone.
I used the Garageband app (4.99) and the iMovie app (4.99).
I created the song in Garageband and sang along with it as well. (The music is very quiet, so I might use it again on a spinning video where I don’t have to talk so much).
Then I put that song onto the video and then layed the voice over the video. I’ve never done it before, and figured it out within a day or two, so you can do it!!
Enjoy!
.
This is fantastic! I’m a beginning knitter & have been intimidated by double-pointed needles, but this technique looks less difficult and more intuitive, so I’m excited to try it.
Thanks for the tutorial. I found it really easy to follow and see what you’re doing, which is so helpful. Looking forward to more! 🙂
Thanks, Chandi! This is so helpful. I can’t wait to use this technique to make more useful things! I’m still in the “scarf mode” trying to perfect the stitches. I have SO much to learn!
Hello my dearest! I’m so thrilled that you have this great tutorial, BUT for the first time, I’m really having a hard time with it. I’ve spent 3 days, and about 10 hours, and I still can’t get it 🙁 🙁
Please, please help me.
Quick question, my granddaughters head is 19 inches in diameter, how can I figure out how many stitches I would need to cast on.
Once again, thank you so very much!

Hi, Deborah. You’ll need to do a gauge swatch and see how many stitches per inch you get. Then subtract about 2″ from her head measurement, so 17″. Cast on as many sts as you need to create a hat or headband that is 17″ around. If possible, we might try to do another magic loop tutorial to help explain more clearly.
How is this easier than double points if I am going to switch to double points to knit the Lumin shawl anyway?
Hi Jeanette,
thank you for your comment. You can use the tools you prefer to for the first few rounds. Some knitters prefer DPNs, some like Magic Loop. You will, however, need to switch to larger cord circular needles for sure later in the project.
There are different methods available how to center out Cast On, one being the Magic Ring method, but if you google “center out cast on knitting methods” you will get a a lot of other suggestions as well.
I hope this helps. Have a great weekend. – Johanna 💕
