Hey, gorgeous crochet friend! Can you believe it? I finished exactly ONE crochet project last year. But hey, one is better than none! I’d love to tell you allll about my scrumptious, color-changing, gradient, crochet sweater!
One day, Tim and I were in the office with hundreds of skeins of yarn scattered about, as we prepped mystery kits for you. And then I stumbled across a color combination that I just had to keep for myself. (This!) It took several months before I found the perfect project, but then I discovered this Confetti DK Pullover and knew it was the one.
And so I began… and I found that as I crocheted, the different colors allowed me to remember the different times of the year during which I was working on this project!
I remember sitting in North Pole, Alaska during the height of summer with the sun shining on my face, as I sat on my in-law’s back porch. During that time, I worked through the white section of this crochet sweater. And later, as I shifted into the pinks and greens of the sweater, our trip there was nearing its end, and we were packing up to head back to North Carolina.
As the summer faded and shifted, so did my sweater. It moved into golds, greens, teals, and finally navy and sapphire blue on the sleeves. It was as if the summer was saying, “Goodbye, friend,” and ushering in the cooler days of autumn. This project is a wearable collection of memories, and I couldn’t be happier with it.
This sweater is the Confetti Dk Pullover by Nomad Stitches with a slight modification. I added in puffed sleeves because you know how I love them so!
I am so in love with it! I’ve been a big fan of Sandra at Nomad Stitches for years and really enjoy making her patterns.
I’ve teased this project a bit on social media and my Facebook Lives, so many of you have asked for the colors as a kit. So here you go! The Imaginative Hues ‘Dewy’ DK kit is a six-skein yarn kit that includes 1,500 yards total (250 yards per each skein). You could, of course, use any combination of DK weight yarn that you prefer. We don’t offer the yarn kit colors as singles, so if you need more yarn for other sizes, any other Dewy Dk yarn will work to add to your sweater. Or you can order two kits, if you prefer.
I love this pullover because I can wear it with jeans or a dress, and it’s the perfect cropped length. You could make yours longer if you prefer, though.
I didn’t get too picky about how and where I placed the colors but just went with what felt right. It looks like a sunset dipping into a deep lake.
And you may have noticed that I altered the original sleeve design to make them puffy and billowy! At the elbows, I started increasing evenly around by 4 sts once every 12 rounds.
Once you get to the cuff, decrease rapidly with a smaller hook by working sc2tog all the way around. Then tightly sc in each stitch around. Then work the cuff as written.
I would rate this crochet sweater pattern as Intermediate. It took me a minute to understand the yoke instructions, but once I got it, I completely got it! And now that it’s all finished, I totally adore it, and it fits perfectly!
(Please note, this is not our pattern. It belongs to Nomad Stitches, so you’ll need to direct all questions about the pattern to them.)Â
If you decide to make one, I hope you enjoy it! I think it’ll be a treasure you’ll enjoy for years. Happy crocheting, sweet friend!
Grab the yarn kit for this sweater here, while it’s still available.

This rendition of the sweater looks lovely! I would like to use Alpaca Silk DK yarn. How would that change the drape and style of this sweater? And should I crochet it a little differently to accommodate the different yarn?
Alpaca Silk DK will be great for this sweater. It will be a bit softer than the Dewy DK, and you will probably see a bit more drape, but you shouldn’t need to adjust the pattern.
Many thanks!
Hi Chandi!
I purchased the pattern and the beautiful yarn kit today; it will be my first sweater. It is both exciting and scary! I was wondering if I could get a little help regarding the blending of the different colors. How exactly do you alternate the rows to make the transitions with the different colors blend so well together? Do you have a video showing it? I looked but couldn’t find one.
Thank you!
You might find this video on marling yarns helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHHw5C3gnag
While it’s specifically about knitting, the concept is the same for blending different colors.
Beautiful sweater and colors but I need to know before ordering …..Does this mean the kit will only make a size small so we would need to buy more yarn to make the size medium?
The kit includes 1500 yards of Dewy DK yarn, so if you’re making a size that requires more yardage, you can either supplement the kit with additional skeins of Dewy DK or purchase a second Imaginative hues kit.
Hi Margaret!
According to the pattern I just purchased, it looks like the 1500 yards (=1380 m) from the kit would allow us to make up to size 3XL of the Cropped version or up to size L of the Full length version, as long as your gauge matches. Also take into account that Chandi said that, for the Cropped one she made for herself (size XS or S, not sure), she used most of the lighter colors and not much of the darker colors. That would indicate that you might have to use more of the darker colors to make longer or larger sizes. If you want to keep the balance of colors the way it is on hers, you might need to follow her suggestion and add part of a single skein in Cream at the beginning. Hope that helps!
Nadia thank you so much for responding as that is what I was thinking that there would be enough but wish they had stated the sizes this kit can make as I don’t want to order an extra skein to make the Medium if it’s not needed. I noticed on the Ravelry page it said 1,030 meters for the size Medium Full Length but after downloading the pattern it says 1,090 meters which made me check all sizes and yes there is an error somewhere on the amounts so I presume the actual pattern amounts are correct and not what Ravelry have listed. Either way going by this I don’t think I need more to do the full length in medium but I sent Expression Fiber Arts an email to make sure.
Thank you for your answer, Monica! However, in the marling technique Chandi describes in this video, she holds 2 strands of different colors together throughout the whole project to create the color transitions. This technique would not work for the Confetti pullover as it would, in effect, double the weight of the yarn used.
Nadia, It does not look like marling, but rather alternating colors (2 rows new color, 2 rows old color, then new color) in the transitions.
Thank you, Tessie! That does make sense. I’ll try it that way.
Hey there, I have been working with cheap acrylic yarn to practice the pattern until my yarn comes in. I’m finding that I need a much smaller hook size. The pattern calls for a 6mm and I’m using a 4.5 to reach the gauge. I’m just wondering if anyone else has this kind of problem. I’m not sure if it will affect my yardage.
Hi, Jennifer. If a smaller hook helps you to match the gauge listed in the pattern, then it won’t affect your gauge. You’ll use the same amount of yarn as what’s indicated in the pattern. However, you may want to re-test your gauge once your yarn arrives, as our yarn will work up differently than an acrylic yarn.
I am halfway through making this pattern, and because it is crochet, it is a heavier than I expected. (It’s beautiful, and I am sure the recipient will be very happy.) For the future, would you consider creating a knitted DK yarn sweater with puffy sleeves?
We can add it to our list of ideas for future patterns and ask the designers to see if anyone is interested in designing something like that.
Is it possible to purchase the pattern only?? This sweater is so extremely beautiful. Thank you!
Yes, that is possible. Since this isn’t one of our own pattern you will need to get a copy on Ravelry. Here is the link to it: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/confetti-dk-pullover-adult
