Hello, beautiful soul! I am incredibly delighted to announce our 2026 yearlong Mystery Knit Along (MKAL) is here! Our previous Mystery Make Alongs have been super popular, so we can’t wait to do it with you again! Did I mention that there will be prizes? So many prizes, oodles and boodles of them! I truly hope you’ll keep reading to learn how you can sign up and join in on all of the fun!
Vivaldi was designed by Johanna Huck. When asked about this pattern, Johanna said, “Embark on a 12-month knitting adventure with the Vivaldi MKAL, where each month’s clue evokes a specific stage of the day or one of the four seasons. The project begins with a foundation that establishes a strong, textured panel, structurally linking to subsequent clues. Your journey will explore a diverse range of knitting techniques, alternating between delicate lacework and rich, dimensional texture using a shifting palette of hues. As the year progresses, you’ll encounter motifs representing the crispness of winter, the freshness of spring, the warmth of summer, and the deep texture of autumn. The entire project culminates in a final geometric piece before all sections are united and crowned with a decorative final border, completing this yearlong masterpiece.”
This pattern is an Intermediate level design and is for knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Concepts include working to gauge, knitting in the round, cable knitting, eyelet lace, placing beads, adding lifelines, mosaic knitting, reading charts, special stitches, color changes, and applied border.
To knit Vivaldi, you will need 12 different colored skeins of our luxurious, beautifully soft Oasis Camel Silk DK yarn or an equivalent amount of yarn/yardage in another DK-weight yarn. For Clue #1, we used Pink Breeze Oasis Camel Silk DK.
Each month, we’ll let you know which color we used for that clue, but you can also create your own color combination. We DO recommend that you choose colors with a good amount of contrast among them, and knit Vivaldi with at least two different colors.
Our elegant, long-wearing Oasis Camel Silk DK yarn is the stuff that dreams are made of! This luscious 4-ply yarn blends exotic, sultry camel fiber with shimmering mulberry silk to create something truly magical. The result? A silky, supple yarn that glides through your hands and brings unmatched softness, strength, and that irresistible silken glow. Each skein offers 251 yds (230 m) of luxury, perfect for shawls, wraps, sweaters, scarves, and heirloom-worthy accessories you’ll treasure for years.
We filmed a video for Clue #1. Take a look to learn more about the 2026 Mystery Knit Along.
We are also having a yearlong contest for this pattern with prizes! And they’re going to be bigger and better than ever with both monthly prizes and HUGE grand prizes! The Mystery Knit Along event is being hosted solely on Ravelry. Click HERE to learn more and to sign up for the MKAL. I hope you’ll join us to get in on all the fun!

I have joined the MKAL ( Vivaldi), but don’t really want to pay shipping once a month for one skein of yarn. Is it possible to know ahead of time some of the colors that are upcoming so we can purchase more than one skein at a time. Also, if I have to order one skein each time the clue comes out, that means I must wait days to get started on the new clue. As you know many of us who participate in MKALs look forward to the release of each clue and want to get started RIGHT AWAY!
Hi Joanne, thank you for your comment. I’m very sorry but since this is a mystery knit-along we aren’t able to publish more than one colorway ahead of the clue releases.
We understand where you’re coming from, and have several suggestions:
1. First, you are not required to use Expression Fiber Arts yarn to participate in the MKAL, nor is it necessary for prize eligibility. While we encourage people to use Expression Fiber Arts yarn for their projects, anyone who wants to is welcome to use a different yarn. If it’s easier on your budget to wait for the color to be released each month and just purchase a similar color on a similar yarn base from a local yarn store, that’s definitely an option.
2. Second, each curated color palette is accompanied by an inspiration photo, from which all of the palette’s selected colors are drawn. Those who wish to purchase more than the one color a month are encouraged to curate their own set of colors based on this inspiration photo. While your selected colors may not end up being a perfect match to the “official” palette, any set based on the inspiration picture will have a similar finished vibe and flow together well.
3. Third, the official color palette is just a suggestion. Anyone who wants to is welcome – and indeed, encouraged – to choose and use whatever colors they like for their project. For this particular project, it is possible to make the entire thing with just one color, but because there are parts that benefit from having some contrast, we recommend a minimum of 2 colors (which have a decent amount of contrast), and ideally at least 6. Of course, 12 separate colors is also a great choice. We do strongly suggest you use mostly solid/semi-solid colors, as tonal or variegated colors will somewhat obscure many of the stitch patterns on this project.
4. Fourth, we purposely schedule the due dates for each clue out several months in order to give people extra time, should they choose to order their yarn in such a way as to avoid shipping fees. In fact, due to the slight increase to the amount needed to reach the free shipping threshold this year, the due dates have been pushed out an entire month from what we’ve had in past contests to give people the option of purchasing three month’s worth of yarn at a time and still have time to meet the clue deadlines. (One should be able to order in March for Clues 1-3, in June for Clues 4-6, in September for Clues 7-9, and in December for Clues 10-12 clue releases – after using the coupons, each order will still meet the threshold for free shipping – and still have plenty of time to complete those clues prior to the deadline.)
5. Fifth, another option is to find a couple of local “yarny” friends to join with you and place a group order each month. With the coupon code, 3 skeins/month will get you over the threshold to free shipping.
I hope one (or more) of these will be helpful.
Have a nice day! – Johanna đź’–
