Hello, my sweet honeybee! This week, I have a knitted, lace and cabled poncho pattern that I am over the moon excited to share with you! Keep reading to learn all about it!
Orli was designed by Patricia Liefeld. When asked about her pattern, Patricia said, “Like most knitters, I take my yarn and needles wherever I go. My grandchildren call it my magic bag because what I do is magical to them, so I decided to name this pattern for my youngest granddaughter Olivia. Her Hebrew name is Orli, which means ‘my light.’ The poncho contains a ‘shell’ stitch and a basic braided cable. This pattern is easy enough for someone who has never attempted a cable stitch, but engaging enough to keep the most seasoned knitter interested.”
This Intermediate level pattern is for knitters who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include cables, lace stitches, joining panels, and blocking.
Orli is knit with our scrumptious Alpaca Silk DK yarn. This squishy, cuddly, and huggably soft yarn is crafted from a divine 50:50 blend of baby alpaca and mulberry silk, giving it an irresistible drape and a shimmering glow. This yarn is warm, snuggly, and ideal for next-to-skin garments, which makes every stitch a delight. With 230 yds (210 m) per skein, this plush, 4-ply yarn will give you endless creative possibilities.
The sample shown here was knitted with our heavenly Blush Brush Alpaca Silk DK. You will need three to five skeins of Alpaca Silk DK yarn, depending on your selected size. You can choose to include or omit the collar. The total yardage for sizes without the collar is S/M: 550 yds (503 m), L/XL: 785 yds (718 m), and 2XL/3XL: 890 yds (814 m). The total yardage for sizes with the collar is S/M: 650 yds (594 m), L/XL: 900 yds (823 m), and 2XL/ 3XL: 1,020 yds (933 m). The sample shown is a size S/M, modeled on a 34” (86 cm) bust, and it used approximately 650 yds (594 m) total.
We made a video demonstrating how to work the cables featured in this pattern. Take a look!
The pattern includes written and charted instructions, as well as a schematic.
