Hello, my lil’ honeybee! A couple of years ago, we released a wildly popular, knitted ruana called Mantlemist. It remains one of our most popular patterns. However, our lovely crocheters wanted a version of their own, and we didn’t have one… until now. You asked, we listened, and here she is! Muisca is the crochet sister pattern to Mantlemist. Keep reading to learn all about this beautiful pattern.
Muisca was designed by Janica Carter. When asked about her design, Janica said, “The style of this cape is known as a ruana, which is native to the Colombian Andes, and is associated with the Muisca, indigenous people of that area. This terrific texture is supremely simple to create: alternate working half-double crochet stitches into front and back loops. That’s it. After the set-up rows, there’s just one pattern row to remember. Change colors at the end of rows as indicated using a six-color kit designed to fade effortlessly from light gray to roses that flatter all skin tones. This seamless ruana is one size fits most, although length and shoulder drape may alter in appearance based on individual frames.”
This Beginner to Adventurous Beginner level pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to use basic stitches to create a larger garment. Techniques include working into front loops and back loops only and changing colors at the end of a row.
Muisca is made with our Luster Sport yarn. It is a beautifully shimmering and soft, sport-weight yarn with a squish factor that is sure to please! Everyone who sees and feels this yarn base LOVES it. This yarn is a blend of 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Lyocell. Luster Sport has 395 yds/361 m per skein.
Both samples shown used approximately 1790 yds (Color A: 245 yds, Color B: 325 yds, Color C: 325 yds, Color D: 325 yds, Color E: 325 yds, Color F: 245 yds).
Sample A was made with our Sanguine Hues Luster Sport Kit, and Sample B was made with our Blackberry Hues Luster Sport Kit.
