Hello, my little buttercup! This week, I have a beaded, textured, knitted shawl pattern that I am just giddy with excitement to share with you. Keep reading to learn all about it!
Zucchero was designed by Monica Wesley. When asked about her inspiration for this design, Monica said, “Scrumptiously soft yarn with a fluffy cotton-candy halo, delicately quiet stitch textures, and a subtle beaded shine. These sweet details come together in the Zucchero shawl. ‘Zucchero’ is the Italian word for ‘sugar,’ and it’s the perfect description for this delectable shawl that’s designed to wrap you in a yummy, snuggly hug.”
“This shawl is knitted flat in one piece and includes repeating sections of Beaded Stockinette Stitch and Beaded Diamond Stitch, along with a Garter Stitch border on all four sides. Instructions are also included to add beads and a crochet chain embellishment. While both are optional, they are more than just adornment, but rather a key aspect of the overall design, and when added to your shawl, they will elevate a simple stitch pattern to new heights.”
This Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate (depending on embellishments) level pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting, have made several projects, and are ready to knit with more than one color of yarn and/or add embellishments. Skills/concepts include basic knit and purl stitches, knitting and purling with beads (optional), and adding a crochet chain embellishment (optional).
Zucchero was made using our incredibly soft, Limited Edition Sugar Fluff Fingering yarn. Sugar Fluff Fingering is very fluffy and absolutely divine! This yarn is a fun, fingering weight yarn with lovely drape and a beautiful halo and is ideal for multi-seasonal use and all of your treasured items. Sugar Fluff Fingering is made with 80% Suri Alpaca and 20% Acrylic with 364 yds/333 m per 3.5 oz/100 g skein.
The sample shown here was knitted in colors: Bunny Cake (C1), Linden Lace (C2), and Frostier (C3). You will need two skeins each of C1, C2, and C3.
Be sure to order all you need for your project because once this yarn is gone, it is gone!
We made a video demonstrating how to apply the crochet chain embellishment. Be sure to take a look!
The pattern contains written instructions, as well as a photo and video tutorial.

All the best,
Jane
Hi Jane, thank you for reaching out. You’re right, that isn’t given on the pattern page either, it is however included in the full written pattern once you download it from here: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/zucchero.html
I’m including the info for you as well below: size 14 (0.75 mm) or 16 (0.6 mm) crochet hook for beading; approx. 2,450 size 6/0 glass seed beads in color(s) of your choice
The sample shawl used Dyna-Mites seed beads in Transparent Matte Blue Lilac (1,616) and Opaque Ceylon Pastel Lilac (930) from Fire Mountain Gems (https://www.firemountaingems.com/).
I hope this answers our question. Have a lovely day! – Johanna 💜
