Hello, my sweet honeybee! I have a fun, crochet duster pattern to share with you today, and I’d love to tell you more about it!
Rayas was designed by Elisabeth Carr. When asked about her design, Elisabeth said, “Rayas is a flowy, lightweight duster that is worked in three simple panels. The stripes are created by carrying yarn up the side to minimize having a lot of ends to weave in. The pattern is done in a series of chains and double crochet stitches, with two continuously repeating rows, making it perfect for a beginner. The color sequences of the front panels are designed to match up with the color sequences of the back panel, so it looks like one continuous piece.”
This Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern is for crocheters who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Stitches and skills include double crochet, carrying yarn up the side, and slip stitching panels together.
Rayas is made with our new Beacon DK yarn. Beacon DK is a delightfully soft and deliciously shimmery blend of 25% Baby Camel, 25% Mulberry Silk, and 50% Lyocell. This silky, luxurious yarn produces beautiful stitch definition and wonderful drape. It’s an 8-ply yarn (four sets of two plies) with ultra shine and longevity. Sure to be a favorite for all of your heirloom items. 250 yds/228 m per skein.
The duster is offered in sizes XS – 3XL and is based on one’s finished bust size. Rayas uses between 740 yds (677 m) and 1660 yds (1518 m) total.
Please refer to the table on page 5 of the pattern to determine the amount of yarn you will need to make your chosen size.
The sample shown here was made in a size Small and is modeled on a 34″ bust. It was made with our Mossy Hues Beacon DK yarn kit and used approximately 860 yards (786 m) total – Color A: 230 yds/210; Colors B – D: 210 yds/192 m each.
Watch this video in which I demonstrate how to cast on and crochet the rows included in this pattern.
The pattern contains written and charted instructions, as well as a schematic for seaming.

Would love to make the duster! It’s gorgeous
I am currently working on this duster for my sister. Thank you for having a tutorial video as this is the first time I’m doing a fdc. I mistakenly looked up a fhdc and need to start over now but that’s ok because now I know both 😅. And I appreciate your gentle loving personality. It’s very beautiful.
Could you do a video of this Duster Today – Rayas pattern adding 3/4 sleeves?
Hi Natalia, thank you for your message. I’m very sorry but we’re not planning on adding another tutorial to this pattern. You’re welcome to email us about modification questions via the contact form at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/, however. We’ll do our best to help but I can’t make promises.
Have a lovely weekend. – Johanna 💙
I’ve been working on something similar to this, but am not happy with how it’s coming out, so I think I’ll frog it and try this Rayas pattern instead.
