Hello, my lil’ buttercup! This week, I have a delightful treat to share with you. It is a knitted shawl with pockets called Rhay, and I hope you’ll read on to learn more about it!
Rhay was designed by Patricia Liefeld and is the sister pattern to her crocheted Sue Ellen pocket shawl. When asked about this design, she said, “I love to travel! My favorite way to travel is by motor home. We have so many adventures, and I just love being able to stop and visit and explore the little towns as we drive. As we explore, it is so comforting to have a shawl that I can put over my shoulders to protect me from the breeze. I love that I can pop a tissue, a small souvenir, a shell or pebble in one of the pockets. It is comforting to have these little reminders of a fun, relaxing afternoon handy.”
“That is what this shawl embodies. The melodic repeats will put you in a calm, patient state of mind. As a beginner knitter, the ease of the pattern will help you build confidence and trust in your skills.”
Rhay is an Adventurous Beginner level pattern. It is perfect for those knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Skills/concepts include ribbing, decreases, and basic garment construction. This pattern includes written instructions only, as well as a schematic.
Our Pearlescent Worsted yarn is a wonderful choice for this shawl. This wildly popular yarn is so soft and has beautiful drape. Shimmering and heavenly, Pearlescent Worsted is a delicious and glowing blend of 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Mulberry Silk. Luxurious, dreamy, and otherworldly!
The shawl measures 18” x 70” (46 cm x 178 cm) after blocking, and the sample shown here used approximately 1000 yards total/915 meters. The design is customizable, but may require additional yardage. The sample shown here used five skeins of our Pearlescent Worsted yarn (220 yd/201 m per skein) in the color Persephone.
We made a video demonstrating how to work the body stitch and make the pocket. Take a look!
