Hello, my sweet daisy! I have a lovely pattern to share with you today. Our pattern this week is a beaded, crochet shawl called Florescence. I do hope you’ll read on to learn more about it!
When asked about her debut pattern, Janet Pippin said, “Florescence means ‘to bloom.’ The main inspiration for this shawl is a blooming flower. Some petals in a closed flower can still be seen but are condensed together. The edging of this shawl represents a closed flower finally blooming into its most beautiful state. When paired with the yarn used, you may just feel like you are wrapped in the petals of a flower.”
“This shawl is a two-row repeat after a few setup rows. The shawl can be worked to the stated number of rows or to a desired number of rows for a custom size. Once the repeat rows are complete, an edging of just two rows is then worked to finalize the shawl. The beading on the very last row is easier than you think.”
Florescence is made with our Pearlescent Fingering yarn, a sumptuous blend of 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Mulberry Silk. This yarn is an unbelievably soft yarn with a lovely drape and a shine that just won’t quit! When you combine these two fibers into a single-ply yarn, you get subtle differences in tone, and the colors truly appear iridescent and other-worldly!
To crochet Florescence, you will need 2 skeins of our Pearlescent Fingering yarn. The sample shown here was made with our Reverie Pearlescent Fingering and used 995 yards/910 m total.
This Adventurous Beginner (without beads) to Intermediate (with beads) pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches include double crochet, treble crochet, Stacked Treble Crochet, and optional beading.

I have issues with verbal directions (and my declining hearing is not making that any easier. Any chance you have written directions or a chart?
Hi Rose,
yes we do have written directions. You can find them on the pattern page for download https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/florescence.html

Have a nice day! 💕
Unfortunately I cannot afford to buy your yarn 🙁 I need to use some alternatives. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I am using cotton yarn so the shawl might be a bit heavier but so fat (10 rows in) it gives a nice drape. The pattern is easy to follow – meditative almost. Thank you.
