Hello, my wonderful blossom! We’re gonna be learning how to crochet flowers today! Specifically, how to crochet a flower border that you can attach to any blanket, shawl, scarf, etc. Hurray! Full video tutorial below. Check out this stunning border on our new Kola Street Shawl. This semi-circular shawl is just GORGEOUS!!
Janica, the designer, says: My childhood vacation memories are mostly at my great-grandmother’s home in south Mississippi. It was the central point on the map when family gathered for the holidays. We easily had 15 people or more (and just one bathroom!) at celebrations, and the kids were often shooed outside to play. My sister and I invented many games under an enormous magnolia tree in the backyard.
When my great-grandmother died, my Great Aunt Lydia Mae (pronounced LYE-duh May, don’t ask me why) continued to live there. She was probably the first person I ever saw crochet. She made afghans that were essentially just single, giant granny squares. We spent hours crafting together, but she never saw me learn to crochet. So, I’m dedicating this magnolia-blossom-inspired shawl to her and to all the happy times spent together on Kola Street.
Kola Street was designed by Janica York Carter. It is an Intermediate to Advanced level pattern and is for those crocheters who are comfortable with lace stitches and are ready to learn some new skills like working into ch-sps and clustering sts.
Kola Street uses our Magnolia Hues kit in our Sincere Sock yarn. The kit has 400 m/437 yd per skein (1748 yd per kit). This beautiful blend of 75% superwash merino wool and 25% nylon will make this beautiful heirloom shawl that can be treasured for years to come.
We have filmed a video tutorial for you showing you how to work the flower border on this pattern. Have a look:
This pattern uses four colors of our Sincere Sock yarn but can be made with more or fewer if preferred.
Total yards used for this sample: approximately 1,196 yds: Color A) 149 yds, Color B) 298 yds, Color C) 381 yds, Color D) 368 yds.
Don’t you just adore the flowers along the border? They really look like magnolia flowers!

Hello,
I know this is a silly question but do you still have any of that yarn? I would love to make this for my husband’s cousin. Thank you for all that you do for all of us!
Hi Esther, thank you for your question. We currently don’t have this kit for sale but I’m happy to put it on our request sheet and if Chandi agrees we’ll have it dyed up in 2-3 weeks.
Let me know!
Have a lovely day! – Johanna 💕
