Hello, my dazzling sunbeam! You’re gonna learn how to stitch this lovely beginner level wavy, ripple crochet shawl pattern this week! We have a full video tutorial and written pdf!
Undulation is a beautiful shawl pattern that is easy to make and perfect for any outfit! You can adjust the pattern too, to make a ripple crochet blanket (wouldn’t it be a cute baby blanket?), an easy crochet ripple scarf and more.
This beginner pattern takes a simple row of double crochet and adds evenly spaced increases and decreases to create a lovely wave pattern. Working in just the back of the stitches creates additional texture.
The pattern is easy to customize in both length and width, and the pattern is easy to memorize. Undulation works up quickly and is great for those times when you want to crochet but also watch TV or listen to a podcast, or just let your mind relax.
This ripple crochet pattern is ideal for beginners – just 1 row to memorize!
It was inspired by all things ripply in nature! Clouds, waves, sand dunes – you’ll find them all around you.
This easy beginner crochet shawl was designed by Jane Vanselous. This lovely wrap design is made with our new Mirage Sport yarn. It is shown in our Umber Hues kit. Luscious and supreme! SOOO soft, like heavenly clouds!
The sample shown used 922 yards total: Color A (gold): 272 yds, B (brown): 323 yds, and C (plum): 327 yds.
We made a video demonstrating how easy it is (even for new, beginners!) to crochet this rippling shawl pattern. Take a look:

You say ripple, I say ribble, You say ripple, I say ribble, Ripple-Ribble, Ripple-Ribble
Let’s call the whole thing off!
(Sung to the classic tune Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off, which involves potayto/potahto, tomato/tomahto…I think Ripple/Ribble’s more fun!!!!!)
😂😂 I love it!
This is my all time favorite crochet ripple shawl pattern. I am making 1 each for my 3 granddaughters and of course 1 for my daughter and 1 for my daughter in-law. Each one has their favorite color. Thank you so much for having fabulous yarn and…wonderful patterns too. Life is good.
Excited for new patterns
I love this pattern and it was just what I was looking for when I discovered your site. The swatch in worsted yarn worked up perfectly. But, when I switched to sock weight, the yarn over in the DC when working in the back loop was a tedious problem. I had to fight EVERY stitch. I simply could not get the yarn over to slide over the hook like a good stitch should. So I’ve had to sacrifice the ribbing to save my sanity. The Smooshy Dream yarn is very pretty in its own right, so all is not lost. If you have a suggestion to solve my yarn over issue, I’d love to hear it.
Dawn, ah, different yarns do behave differently! I wouldn’t fight it – just find something that works well with the pattern! 🙂
Is there a pattern? I am on the web site looking for the pattern. I am looking to see how log to make the shawl in any mulitples of stiches needed…
This is the Undulation shawl. You can find the pattern at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/undulation.html
This shawl is so beautiful!! I love the colors that were used. I can’t wait to order some of this gorgeous yarn. Thank you again Chandi for all the beautiful patterns you share with us.❤️✌️
