Hello, my lovely one! We have a gorgeous new knitting pattern for you this week called Darcy, and it is so pretty! I just know you are going to love making this one! Ohhh the sumptuous red, the drape, the flow, the elegance… ah!
Darcy (or Darcey) is a variety of rose! Oh how I wish I could grow roses! This design is also a subtle nod to Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice because… well, ya know. Love him! I’ve read the book and can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched all the different versions of the show.
The design motifs in this shawl remind me of little roses climbing up a trellis. What looks like flowers, is actually a traditional Shetland lace pattern, called “Cat’s Paw.” How resourceful those early knitters were, and how thankful I am that their ingenuity has been passed down to us.
This is a crescent shaped shawl that is knit from end to end. As you repeat the pattern, the width grows. Then, after working a few repeats without increasing, the decrease rows are repeated. When blocking, you may choose to leave the shawl straight (as knit), or curve it into a crescent shape. I am partial to the latter, as it tends to hug your shoulders and makes it easier to wear.
Darcy uses 3 skeins of our Alpaca Silk DK yarn.
The sample shown used 532 yards, and was made in our Candy Apple color. This is a vivacious, dazzling, intoxicating red.
We have filmed a video tutorial for you showing you how to spray/dry block this shawl and how to work some of the stitches. Take a look:
Look at this lovely lace! This shawl is warm, yet light and airy enough for those sudden temperature swings that spring is known to bring.
This shawl’s length and width are easily customizable, but will affect the yardage needed.
