I would love to Crochet this beautiful Satis shawl design but your tutorial is not as easy as it shows.
I would prefer a chart pattern that I can see and follow instead of a tutorial or read pattern.
Is it possible to buy a chart pattern for this Satis shawl design
Unfortunately, we don’t have the charter version of the pattern at this time. That is something that we can work on. Thanks for asking!
Is there a printed pattern for this shawl that we can download? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your work!
Thank you so much! Yes, you can find the pattern here: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/satis.html ☺️
Hi – I’m loving the look of this shawl, but I’m confused – nowhere in the pattern does it give the wider widths stitch count numbers by row? What is the stitch count after the first 12 rows of the lace edging? It’s very confusing. Thanks for any guidance. I would love to have a chart!
After you work rows 1-12, the pattern says, “With color A, rep rows 1-12 five times for a total of 6 lace points. Do not break color A. Join color B.” So, you will now start Row 1 again, but ending up with 27 sts at the end of it. Row 2 will have 28, Row 3 will have 29, etc. When you get to Row 12, you should have 31 sts. Then, begin the Rows 1-12 again. At the end of Row 12, you will have 36 sts. At the end of the 5 repeats, you should have 51 sts. Then, you’ll join color B and follow the next part of the pattern where you will follow the instructions to alternate colors.
I hope that helps clarify a bit. If you have additional pattern questions, email us at [email protected] and we can provide more one-on-one help. Thanks!
Hi Monica
So Row 3 will have 29 sts and Row 12 should have 31 sts. What about Rows from 4-11 ?
Thanks
Do you mean the colour carried up the side counts as the first stitch? Then you continue with the other colour? Is that how it grows??
Hi Charlie, thank you for your question. No, I don’t think that’s how this is meant or done. If you want to carry a yarn along the edge because you’re planning on using it 2 rows later, you catch it rather than using to make a stitch. Here is a video how to carry yarn along the edge in crochet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SglgQJjWpWU
I hope this is helpful. – Johanna 💕
Prefer full video please
I’m a bit confused, after adding my 2 row of lace edging, the pattern says you will have 22 stiches… I have 30.??? Where did I go wrong or am I miss reading the directions?( I agree with wishing for a full video) Looking forward to completing this beautiful shawl!!
I believe you may be reading the directions incorrectly because you shouldn’t have 30 sts there, but I am happy to help! When you end the final set up row (row 36) you will have 20 sts. Then, you will begin with Row 1 of the Lace Edging section. You will only do 2 sc in that first sc and then 1 sc in each sc across. This will give you 21 sts.
At row 2, you will sc in the first and then 2nd sc sts. Then, you will ch2, skip the next sc, and then sc in the next sc 8 times, ch1 and then sc in each sc across. At the end of you will have increased 1 stitch from the previous row and you should have 22 sts at the end of it. Keep in mind that even though you did a ch2, for this section, they count as 1 st.
I’m loving this shawl pattern, but with the repeat of rows 1-12 so many times, my shawl’s width isn’t growing. I always go from 21 to 29 stitches, then back to 21 again. Where did I go wrong? I have just a few rows of colors A and B left, then will start color C. Thank you for your help!
Have you watched our video for this shawl on YouTube? You can find it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmpcsqd-gaQ
If that doesn’t help solve your issue, go ahead and send an email to [email protected] for additional pattern help. Thank you!
I am getting very frustrated doing this shawl. I have unpicked and re worked it quite a few times, and it just isn’t working. Is the pattern correct?
Yes, this pattern is correct and has been tested. For one-on-one help on this pattern, you can send us an email at [email protected].
I am trying to work this pattern but am super confused after the first bit of lace stitches. Wish video was just a tad longer showing us how to continue from the I guess you can call it decrease
If you’ll send us an email at [email protected], Pam can help you out. In that email, please let her know what rows you’re having trouble with and anything specific that’s confusing to you. Thanks.
I agree with the previous posts. I’m an experienced crocheter and I DID watch the complete video tutorial but the problem is, there is no mention of the increases in the subsequent repeat rows. It’s a pretty simple pattern but there needs to have been a note letting us know how many stitches should be on each increased row after the initial 1-12 set. I’m also doing mine in all one color so it’s sort of confusing trying to ignore the color change instructions.
Hi Karen,
I’m sorry the Satis Shawl doesn’t include the information you’re looking for. Let me know if you need me to reach out to the designer so we can provide this information. Have a wonderful day.
Yes this seriously needs a full video, or a chart, or at least the stitch count after 1-12. Especially for a purchased pattern.
Hi Charlie, thank you for your message. I’m reaching out to the designer and will ask them to include stitch count to the rows beyond the initial rows 1-12. I’ll keep you posted once that is done and the revised version is uploaded on our website.
Have a nice Sunday. – Johanna 💕
Question – When doing the lace edging and you add color B and you have not broken color A do you just leave color A hanging off the side and then pick up for row 3-6, leave color B off the side for rows 7-8, this leaving lengths of yarn off the side? Is there a video to show of how to change colors without breaking the yarns and having so many ends to work in? I agree there needs to be more visual instructions.
Hi Teresa,
Thank you for your comment. In my opinion changing colors in crochet without breaking the yarn only really works when it’s maximum 2 rows before changing colors back (for crocheting flat). If it’s more than 2 rows then I’d cut the color and do what they are showing in this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF6OkNL5rY4 to avoid weaving in so many ends.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a tutorial for that yet but I hope this will work out for you as well.
Have a lovely day! – Johanna 💕
Glad to see I’m not the only one who can’t seem to make heads or tails of this “beginner” pattern. Please consider making a few simple changes to help make this pattern more user friendly? First of all, adding one line saying “begin body of shawl” would be extremely helpful. Second, this pattern may have been tested but has it been tested with actual beginner crocheters? There’s no way an actual beginner could manage this. Pease consider revising this pattern for clarity. Finally, the video is literally no help at all. Adding one that addresses the issues people seem to be having is another way to add clarity to this paid for pattern. I’m sure you would agree that there’s no reason a pattern this simple should solicit so much confusion.
Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your feedback. We’re currently not planning on adding an additional tutorial to this pattern. If you have trouble with the pattern or feel there are things missing please feel free to reach out to us via the contact form at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/. We’ll happily address those. Thank you! 💕
After working this pattern for the 3rd time, and going to a knitting store locally for help, (which didn’t help in the long run) AND reading all the above comments, I can rest tonight knowing that it’s the pattern and not me! Huge oversight in not telling the number of stitches along the way so we can know when and if we’re off. I’ve gotten to the ‘begin lace border’ 3 times now and not having enough to do Row 2!
Yes, I will send an email but even then will have to wait days for an answer. Please consider pulling this pattern if an updated version (talked about Oct ’23?) is not available. I love the yarn, but wow, this ‘beginner’ pattern has definitely curbed my desire to buy more patterns from you.
“Keep in mind that even though you did a ch2, for this section, they count as 1 st.” This bit of info helped because I thought maybe my shawl didn’t grow because I didn’t count them as 2, but they count as one.
I know a video isn’t going to happen, but just a picture with “when you’re at this row, it should be X number of stitches and look like this” would help so much.
Looking forward to my turn to get answers.
4th time’s a charm,
Peggy
Hi Peggy,
thank you for your comment. I reached out to Pam and it seems like she already answered your question via email. We did update the pattern pdf on our website with stitch counts after every 12-row repeat, so that should help to keep track. Please make sure to redownload the pdf to have the newest version on hand.
Please, let me know if you have further questions. Have a nice weekend! – Johanna 🩷
Pam,
Thank you for sending me the improved version of the pattern. I feel hopeful that 4th time’s a charm! The stitches aren’t the challenging part, for sure. It’s just knowing how many there should be, and the new version fixes that.
Apparently to get the proper stitch count on the lace section even rows you are counting the ch2 spaces as 1 stitch and also the ch1 space. I’m not a beginner but this is the only way I can come up with to match the stitch count on those rows. It is not very clear. Row 2 of lace border should read 13 stitches, 8 ch2 spaces, 1 ch1 space. Instead of 22 stitches. Please let me know if I’m thinking correctly.
Hi Pam, thank you for your message. Yes, you’re correct it should read 13 sc, 8 ch-2 sp, 1 ch-1 sp instead of 22 sts to be 100% clear. So you’re definitely on the right track and can continue with your project.
Enjoy making Satis and have a nice weekend! – Johanna 🩵
