Happy day, beautiful soul!
Today, just for you, we have a crocheted shawl that is just a delight! It’s almost like a “choose your own adventure” experience.
René Shawl by Kristina Smiley
This shawl is a multi-skill level design that moves through beginner skill level, to intermediate, and then advanced. The pattern is written in a way that is easily customizable for those who wish to solely work within their comfort level and for those who wish to challenge themselves further. This transitional design can continue with beginner level instructions for the full length to the end, or switch to progress through intermediate and even advanced. Mix and match the three patterns to customize your look!
Have a watch! We have filmed a video tutorial for ya…
Any worsted weight yarn will work, but in our gorgeous sample we used Pearlescent Worsted. The sheen and softness are just amazing.
As Emerson said: “Life is a journey, not a destination.” You need to enjoy things along the way, each and every day.

Hiya! Beautiful pattern! I just want to point out or clarify that row 3 is worked in the previous row, not the pocket stitch row, correct? Since you are adding 5 stitches to each pocket stitch post, there is no way to keep your stitch count correct unless you work the previous row, not the pocket stitch row. It is not written that way in the pattern, nor is that clarified in the video about that stitch and there is no stitch count given for the pocket stitch row. Trying that stitch for the first time gave me quite a few more stitches. Thanks!
Yes that is correct!
You DO know, right, that now I’m going to spend half my time trying to knit and the other half learning how to crochet, simply because the patterns you bring to us are so lovely and gorgeous!
Ralph Waldo Emerson aslo wrote (and, spoke….R.W. was not a shy man…).
Be silly.
Be honest.
Be kind.
Which is a pretty neat way to bundle the important things all together in six words.
Bright blessings to you and Tim! Please have a most eventful rest of the weekend! (Eventful can mean taking superbly long naps, or walking to the horizon or reading a most excellent book. Or a NOT so excellent book that makes you lajgh!

Thanks, Gayle! I hope you have a wonderful day! ❤️
I love the René shawl. The video is very helpful. Do you have any tutorial on how to style this shawl? I see those beautiful pictures with the pattern but I do not really know how to achieve to style it as a scarf. I would simply wear it as a wrap and maybe throw part of the shawl over my shoulder. I probably should know these styling techniques by now so I am a bit embarrassed to admit that I do not. You are so good at it that I decided to ask for your expertise or maybe only a reference to where I should look for styling instructions. Thank you 🙏
I don’t have any tutorials on how to style the shawl. Let me check and see if I can find any references. Here is one: https://www.interweave.com/article/crochet/wwdd-5-ways-wear-shawl/ I have been planning on doing a tutorial, so I will try to make that happen! ❤️
Very attractive shawl. I’m getting ready to begin, but want to make it a bit larger for a taller person. What is the multiple to accommodate all three stitch patterns. Thanks
I should add, I’m thinking 6 + 1.
The intermediate section is multiples of 2 plus 1 (3 more added for base stitch) and the advanced section is 3 plus 1 (add 2 for base chain). The beginner section is just however many stitches needed for the width.
Hi there,
I’ve really enjoyed crocheting this beautiful shawl!! The pocket stitch is my new favorite. Thanks for providing the video, it really helped. Almost finished yaayyy!!
Woohoo! So glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Hi Chandi!!
I have attempted this shawl several times, but once I get to the part where I add another row of DC’s, it fans out A LOT. As if I am increasing (which I think is what I am doing, but not intentionally!). It doesn’t look anything like yours. Will you be doing another tutorial showing how to do the second row of DC’s? I’m lost!
Thanks for all you do!!
Cheryl, sorry for any confusion! It is def something we can try to video for you – feel free also to reach out to the designer listed in the pattern for quick assistance. Thank you!
Im not speak english
part2 very very difficult
Please video
We plan on it! ❤️
I agree ,i achieved it at last but i also find it difficult from the pattern only.
I love this pattern!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you 😊
Hey lovely,
I love all your beautiful patterns and tutorials…I have a question that can I use just the pocket cluster stitch to complete the shawl? Because the stitch is beautiful itself…just want to know how many chains I have to make for starting my project…
It would depend on how long you would like your shawl to be. Because you are workin the cluster into each individual stitch post, the width of the shawl would be determined by the number of stitches you begin with. I hope that helps. 🙂
