Lovely, shining soul! Welcome! I am tickled as a pickle that you’re here today.
We’ve been excited to announce our latest knitting pattern for awhile and ta da! Here it is!
Shala Tee – this is the sister to our previously-published pattern, Hadi. They feature the same gorgeous lace pattern but are different shapes. Both designed for ya by Emily Walton.
Shala is a beautiful knitted dolman-sleeve t-shirt sweater design. This pattern is doable for an advanced beginner and will make a wonderful wardrobe staple!
We chose to make it in our softly-sparkling Glimmer Fingering (features a gorgeous gold sparkle throughout – very subtle!), but any fingering weight yarn you love will work.
It utilizes a three-needle bind off to seam up the shoulders and in case you’re unfamiliar with that technique, we filmed a video for ya! Have a watch:
Anyhoos – I hope you ENJOY it! It’s a wearable, gorgeous piece that you’ll be sure to love and reach for again and again!
The written version is here.
Have a delightful day, dahling, and thanks for reading!

Hi
I am ready to cast on the sleeves for the Shala Tee BUT there are no instructions for this step of the pattern.
Please urgently let me know.
Thanks
Margaret
Margaret, the sleeves are dolman style so will form as you knit. 🙂
Chandi,
To clarify the pattern is knitted as two two piece. One for the front and one for the back?
Yep, you got it! 😊
I finally finished! It’s my first piece of actual clothing ever. I found the sewing it up together the most challenging part but after watching the video it all became clear and it looks very neat! Thank you so much for the pattern!
Perfect! Congratulations! ❤️
Hi, I’m at the lace pattern beginning but am totally confused having never done lace before. Instructions say do row 1 and 2, which are just knitting. Then for size M k3, pm, do row 3 50 stitches, which again is just knitting, pm, k 48, pm, row 3 for 50 st, again just knitting etc. what am I missing? On lace pattern it says multiples of 10 for 12 rows. What does this mean? I don’t see instructions for 12 rows, only thru row 4 which is just a purl row. Help! Thanks.
Hi Patty, thank you for your message. I’m happy to help with the Shala pattern.
I assume you already worked the 2×2 ribbing at the bottom and completed the body section, increased for the sleeves, and worked 3″ from the underarm.
Now you will work Row 1 & 2 of the lace pattern on page 5 (which are just knitting, as you mentioned already). For Row 3, you will k3, pm, k50 (setup for lace section), pm, k48, pm, k50 (setup for lace section), pm, k3. I wouldn’t worry about the multiple of 10 because the stitch markers already make sure that you have a multiple of 10 (in this case 50) between the stitch markers.
You will follow row 4 of the lace pattern now, meaning p3, sm, p50, sm, p48, sm, p50, sm p3.
The instruction now state to continue working working in lace pattern until your sleeve measures 4″ from underarm. So you will continue with row 5 next, which is the first row with actual lace work in it:
Row 5: k3, sm, (k4, k2tog, yo, k4)x5, sm, k 48, (k4, k2tog, yo, k4)x5, sm, k3.
Row 6: p3, sm, p50, sm, p48, sm, p50, sm p3.
Row 7: k3, sm, (k3, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k2)x5, sm, k 48, (k3, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k2)x5, sm, k3.
Row 8: p3, sm, p50, sm, p48, sm, p50, sm p3.
Row 9: k3, sm, (k2, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k1)x5, sm, k 48, (k2, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k1)x5, sm, k3.
Row 10: p3, sm, p50, sm, p48, sm, p50, sm p3.
Row 11: k3, pm, k50, pm, k48, pm, k50, pm, k3.
Row 12: p3, sm, p50, sm, p48, sm, p50, sm p3.
Once you’ve finished that you will continue with Row 1 of the lace again but make sure to measure your piece because you will start the neck shaping once your sleeve measures 4″.
I hope this helps and makes sense. If you continue to have trouble please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via the contact form at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/
Have a wonderful weekend.- Johanna 🥰
