Hello, sweet soul! Today, I have an absolutely gorgeous, refreshed crochet shawl pattern to tell you all about. I think you’re going to fall in love with the lacy Bahari shawl, so I hope you’ll keep reading for all the delightful details!

Bahari was designed by Kristina Smiley. When asked about the inspiration for this pattern, Kristina said, “A long and lacy wrap with simple, repeating patterns of solids and lace. My inspiration for this pattern was the ocean. I have always had a fascination with the sea, particularly the way the waves roll onto the beach, smoothing the sand. To replicate this phenomenon, I used an alternating pattern of solid sections for ‘the sand’ and lace sections for ‘the waves.'”

“Along with my fascination with the sea, I have always loved to learn about different cultures and languages. When thinking about and researching names for this design, I looked for a unique word that would fully describe my fascination with the sea/ocean and came across ‘Bahari,’ the Swahili word for ‘the sea.’ I love the way the word just rolls off your tongue just like waves rolling in from the sea. It reminds me of summer breezes and romantic walks.”

This is a Beginner level pattern and is perfect for those who are just beginning or have crocheted a project or two. Stitches include chaining and double crochet.

The Bahari shawl is knitted with our sumptuous Yak Silk Lace yarn, which is pure luxury! When yak is combined with silk, you get an amazingly soft, lustrous, silky, saturated yarn that is impossible to ignore! Yak Silk Lace is a luscious, 2-ply blend of 50% ultra-soft yak down fiber and 50% lustrous silk. It’s buttery, creamy to the touch, and shimmery with dreamlike softness. Colors dyed onto this yarn base are rich, saturated, and bold. Perfect for sensual, soft shawls, scarves, baby clothes, socks, hats, and whatever you desire! Hold it double for projects requiring a thicker yarn. Projects made with Yak Silk Lace will be adored and treasured for years on end, and it’s loaded with yardage with 680 yds/630 m per skein!

The samples shown here were crocheted with colors Taurus Loyalty Yak Silk Lace and Bull Yak Silk Lace, and each version used approximately 930 yds (850 m) total. Both versions used two skeins each.
