Hello, my sweet sunbeam! This week, I have a special treat to share with you. It is the summer inspired crochet shawl called Lato, and it is the crochet sister to our beautiful Mysa pattern. I hope you’ll read on to learn all about it.

Lato was designed by Johanna Huck. When asked about this design, Johanna said, “Inspired by a summer breeze, Lato – the Polish word for summer – imitates the movement of the wind passing over a corn field on a beautiful summer day. The wrap features two different sections separated by a transition segment. Both sections are repeated a total of four times using different color combinations. Their lacy characteristics create an open structure, which is interrupted by the solid transition segment that prepares the color change for the following section. A front post single crochet row at each end gives the wrap a more rigid edge to avoid curling. Optional tassels can be added for a more romantic finish.

The luxurious blend of baby alpaca, silk, and yak makes Vellum Fingering the perfect base for shawls and wraps. Its soft feel and blocking performance gives accessories a beautiful drape. It is an ideal choice for crocheted items with occasional stiff attributes.”This Intermediate level pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches include single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, double crochet-v stitch, front post single crochet, and foundation single crochet.

Our Vellum Fingering yarn is perfect for this shawl. This yarn is so soft and has beautiful drape. It is a luxurious, draping, fingering weight yarn that’s perfect for garments, shawls, scarves, sweaters, and much more. Vellum Fingering is lovely for items you want to treasure for years to come. The colors are slightly softened and heathered due to the natural, unbleached yak fiber. Our Vellum Fingering yarn is a blend of 70% Baby Alpaca, 20% Mulberry Silk, and 10% Yak fiber.

The sample shown here was made in colors: Scale the Summit (C1), Passage (C2), Soul Hike (C3), and Trails (C4). To make the shawl, you will need two skeins of each color.

We made a video showing you how to crochet this shawl. Take a look!
