Hello, my beautiful one! This week I want to share with you a beautiful knitted shawl pattern called Nautile. This beautiful shawl was inspired by the chambered nautilus’ shell and will be an elegant addition to your spring wardrobe.
Nautile, which is French for nautilus, is a semi-circular, spiral wedge shawl that features repeating sections of eyelet lace and reverse stockinette stitch. The contrasting textures of these two stitch patterns, which alternate across five wedges, mimic the curves of a nautilus shell. The nautilus shell is a beautiful symbol of life, internal harmony, creation, and evolution that also conforms to the sacred geometry of the Golden Mean, which appears throughout nature and art.

I am new at this sorry to say, I can’t figure out how to get the written pattern for Nautilis. I must be missing something. I did watch the tutorial and liked it, but I would need the written pattern if I’m to make this project.

Is it OK, if I start with Garter Tab Cast On? Somehow my edge is not very neat if I just start with 1st Row. 🙁
Yes, I believe you could. You would need to do a small garter tab of 3 stitches and then knit and pick up sts along the edges to give you 9 stitches on your needles. Then, begin Set-Up Row 1.
Thank you! I’ve done exactlly as you recommend, just didn’t do it in garter tab, but one knit one purl row – 6 rows. I’ve got the same edge as it continues further in the pattern. Perfect!!!

Can this shawl be knitted with another yarn that does not have a halo with the same weight?

Question about bind off. I used sock weight yarn, 3 hanks and finally approaching the end. Do you recommend a bind off? I was thinking of a beaded picot bind off, but concerned if that would be too much weight on the edge pulling it out of shape or would it actually help with maintaining the blocked shape? Thank you for your great patterns and calm presentation.
The sample shown here just used a basis BO, so you have a lot of flexibility with how you finish Nautile. I think the shawl is big enough to support a beaded, picot bind off just fine. I’ve made fingering-weight designs with more than a thousand beads, and knitted shawls can often support quite a few beads. Take care.
Hello, I really like your work and I decided to knit Nautile shawl from a very nice blue shade-changing yarn I got for Christmas. However, it has a different gauge. It is recomended for needle size 3-4. When I want the shawl big enough, is it okay to just knit longer, or should I add one or two more wedges? And If I should add them, how do I do that?

You’ll want to add more rows, as opposed to more wedges. Additional wedges will just make it more of a circle.

You may need additional yarn to add those extra rows of depth. It’s a semi-circular shawl, so extra rows will also expand its width because you’re adding extra stitches with the extra rows.
I have really enjoyed knitting this but am so confused about the finished shape- it’s not symmetrical so doesn’t really hang right. How do I wear it comfortably?
