How to Spin Funky Art Yarn (with flowers)

Ever wondered how to spin fun and funky art yarn?

Wonder no more, dear fiber-loving friend.

You’re about to see how I do it. Annnnnddd… we’ll add some flowers just for fun.

I’m using my baby (Lendrum Saxony spinning wheel), but you can use a spindle if you like.

For roving and spindles and all that, you can check out Etsy!

You won’t need a drum carder or hand cards or combs or any of those items. They do make the process faster and you’ll get a more predictable, blended effect, but I like the look of just throwing caution to the wind and seeing […]

How to Crochet a Giant Circular Rug – No-Sew!

Due to the massive amount of requests I got for this, we simply had to make a tutorial showing you how to make your very own huge roving rug.

MATERIALS: Roving! I used 7.5 lbs of gray merino wool roving for the size you see here. 3 feet across. Not gonna lie… it was a spendy rug. What is roving? There are different types but it’s basically wool that’s been cleaned and prepped and now all the fibers are lining up pretty and ready for use. Normally roving is used for hand-spinners to spin into their own yarn. But today, we’re […]

How to Spin Yarn on a Spinning Wheel

I’ve been just bursting to show this tutorial to you for ages now. I actually recorded this last summer and am just now getting it edited and put up for you. Can you believe it?

Why spin yarn?

Spinning yarn is sort of like… heaven. It’s soothing. It’s relaxing. It’s meditative. It’s centering. It helps you to focus on the now. Helps you forget yesterday and tomorrow and even today. You just zone out.

It’s really cool to put on some headphones so you’re not distracted and listen to soothing, ambient music while you spin.

Glorious Rainbow Shades of Yarn, Roving and Fleeces

♥ ♥ ♥

“Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” -Harvey MacKay

To try and tell you how much I love to dye wool would be impossible. I think I like it more than knitting. GASP! Did I just say that? It’s a maybe. Tough call.

It’s so fun! Instant gratification. Vibrant shades appearing before my eyes. I love it!

So Sunday I spent 13 hours dyeing up wool and alpaca fleeces (sheared right off the animals and shipped to me), wool rovings (I’ve got some Corriedale, Perendale and mystery wools so far), and […]

New Yarn Spinning Project Underway

♥ ♥ ♥

“Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.”
~Goethe~

My latest spinning project is under way!

I began with this gorgeous roving I purchased a while back from Fat Cat Knits (she has gorgeous rovings!):

Color: Buster
Roving: Falkland
Spun using the short-draw method (I normally use long-draw, but wanted to see if this method created a smoother yarn. It did somewhat, but I didn’t stress over getting it perfectly even.

I divided the roving in half lengthwise and wound into 2 “even” balls:

I stood by my dad’s wood pile and just loved it as a backdrop:

So, as promised in the previous post showing off my gorgeous hand-spun yarn process, here is the super cool, funky and awesome crocheted scarf pattern! I promise it is quite easy and even a beginner can do it. I really adore patterns that look really neat but are very simple and almost mindless. My favorite! So let’s get started.

Digging Through A Room Full of Yarn

“People with many interests live, not only longest, but happiest.” –George Matthew Allen

So I’m digging through a room full of yarn and wool!! I have about 50 lbs of alpaca, tons of merino, corriedale and BFL raw fleeces, as well as tons of roving and scads of yarn and more yarn. And batts! Oh, it’s glorious!

I’m going to get this all dyed and bundled and listed in the shop little by little for you. Here’s just a tiny taste of the goodness to come:

Some Unusual Fibery Happenings…

♥ ♥ ♥

“If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” – Jim Rohn

Amen to that!

So, I’ve had some unusual and exciting fibery things occur recently! Without further ado…

1. The gal at work loaned me some of her dog’s down fur:
